What you should do and not do when preparing an upgrade.
- Do Take an upgrade seriously - underestimating the upgrade is what too many people have done before you...
- Don't Do anything without an upgrade script - get the full picture and make sure someone looks after this "overall picture".
- Do Read up on what's changed - both functionaly and technically - SAP's web sites don't hide this information. It should help you prepare for what's coming
- Don't Ignore the details - everything should have it's place on the upgrade script.
- Do Prepare your system - when you move house you clean up to avoid moving stuff you don't need - an upgrade is much like moving house ! Remove all you don't need and avoid spending time on upgrading it...
- Don't Think an upgrade can be done without testing - a thorough test is valuable and ensures things don't get out of hand
- Do Prioritize: changes that are needed for a "Technical upgrade" are more important than "nice to haves" in added functionality - make sure you drown in the right type of work (if you're planning on drowning anyway)
